Hi All!

The domsjö double sink – if I understood correctly – rests on the countertop on the left and right. The base cabinet does not directly bear any weight.
Now, I don’t have a countertop on the left (sideboard) or right (washing machine), but I would like to install this ceramic sink. A friend said this is basically not a problem if I mount the Faktum side panels on the base cabinet for reinforcement. The sink would then rest on the reinforced base cabinet.
I assume that the basin would then hang too low and the door or drawer front would not close, which is basically not a problem (cutting or no front with mini curtain ).
Have I overlooked anything fundamental in this plan that would ruin it? Does anyone have a similar problem or solutions?

Thank you very much in advance for your answers!

Hey Brootos, thanks for your feedback. My research in the Ikea house and on the internet has shown that actually no weight rests on the metal braces, but that they merely reinforce the base cabinet so that it doesn’t literally splay under the weight of the basin. I would definitely have to lower it anyway. Thanks for your assessment that it should theoretically work, that’s reassuring

I intend to use the DOMSJÖ sink also in the kitchen. Now it should be placed in an L-joint all the way to the left (there is no cabinet next to it, but there is a countertop) on the right the dishwasher should be installed. Does this work or is a cabinet always needed next to it for stability?

Hello,

it is always advisable to have a cabinet on both sides of the sink, as this is most likely what supports the countertop. Even the countertop that rests on the dishwasher must be secured at some point. Either to the adjacent cabinet, or if there is none, to the wall. The sink must have a firm support at the bearing points. How you achieve this is up to you. However, if the sink breaks and it can be proven in any way that the sink was not properly installed, you won’t get a cent. Therefore, it’s better to plan from the start so that the sink has a proper place and you can enjoy it for a long time.
