Thank you very much for the previous hints. I gather that the hunter does not have to keep a distance. I didn't know that before. Last night he was out again, but not directly by our fence. What I also wonder: why does someone else get the territory now? In our village, there are, as far as I know, three hunters and the new one comes from outside. Don't they have priority? Or who gets the contract? Is it drawn by lot? Or can anyone join in? At the moment, there are definitely more hunters than deer. ;)

Depending on the district, it is re-leased every 8-12 years. Possibly the new tenant simply pays significantly better, unfortunately that is often the case, not all landowners care that the tenant comes from the area... They don't care who does it, as long as he is a good "pest controller" (deer & wild boar) and/or pays well for the wildlife damage.

Posted from a hunting stand in immediate proximity to a major city :D

No, our street has meanwhile been entirely declared building land by a new statute. Therefore, as far as I know, the distance regulations are obsolete. We have had 3 new houses in the street just this year, and next to us a "Kern-Haus" was recently announced.

By whom actually? Who receives the lease? The landowner? With the fragmented parcels, the hunter would never finish searching for them...

It's not that complicated :D
If there are multiple landowners, they are combined into hunting districts with a minimum size, which - at least in our case - is done by the lower hunting authority.
This is called the hunting cooperative, which meets at least once a year, and those present elect a tenant every few years. The tenant pays rent proportionally to the owners.
There is also a board of the hunting cooperative, which should maintain contact with the tenant.

Maybe the huntsman is willing to act as a mercy shot, at least I've read several horror stories about their DuoTherm wall ;-(
