Huge amounts of flies in the house

Hi,

as soon as it gets warmer outside again, the damn annoying flies (houseflies or blowflies, no idea) show up. Having one or two is not a problem, but when you enter the living room and there are about 20 small ones (seem to be pretty young flies) flying wildly back and forth at eye level in one spot like in a vortex, it’s neither nice nor does it feel comfortable.

I caught almost 20 with the fly swatter... and a big bumblebee was flying around the living room too.

We had the same thing in the kids' room but there were only about 10 flies.

I just wonder where they come from? We don’t keep any door open for long (so no patio door that stays open for a long time), no window open for constant ventilation, no trash lying around, no food leftovers, etc. etc...

At first, I suspected the cat food bowls in the utility room, but since wet food only goes in there when the cats are around and they eat everything right away, you would notice any larvae laid there...

Does anyone have tips on how to deal with this? I didn’t want to spray anything or constantly squash flies on all the walls and windows with the fly swatter...

I also find it strange since I didn’t have this problem in the old apartment.

I can't help you much.

Our old apartment was about 30 meters as the crow flies from a vineyard. Although we lived on the top floor of the house, we regularly had fruit flies visiting. Quite annoying. Take a look at what the area looks like – it won't help you much, but maybe it's reassuring to know where something like that comes from.

Otherwise, I recommend having "fixed fly screens" installed in your windows. That means not those standard nets with adhesive tape that peels off after two months and lets the critters back in, but with built-in frames. A fly screen sliding door might help at the patio door. We did it this way at our house (we even had fly screen roller blinds installed at the same time) and mostly have peace from the big crawlies.

Good hunting.

Hello,
Try asking your neighbors if they have the same problem. I also first thought it was coming from "im Haus", but it turned out that everyone here has it. Only solid fly screens helped.

At a large discount store that has divided its area into North and South, there were some with aluminum frames for little money in the southern part a few weeks ago. Some stores still seem to have some available.

We had a similar problem last summer and we tried several things against it (including the usual home remedies). I documented everything on our construction blog (which remedy and what it achieved).

The best results were achieved with fly traps for the window, which are small adhesive strips with bait that can be stuck to the window frames (they are also very discreet and last a long time).

Hello

similar with us. We have old nature nearby. We have stopped with traps, etc. This year has been less so far than last year.
