The Frisian Islands are also quiet only in the winter half-year. In summer, they are overcrowded with guests. How about a spa town - something on the outskirts, far from the evening dance events. There are doctors, many elderly people, and at least quiet at night. I understand the desire for absolute peace very well - but as almost everyone has already written, it can hardly be combined with walkable amenities.

Wow, that's already a lot of answers, thanks for that!

On foot, that can hardly be avoided. I have been car-free for 20 years (and that doesn't just mean I don't own one anymore, I also haven't driven one since then), and especially since I don't plan to drive to relatives' neighborhoods, we just have to shop on foot. Yes, a bike would also work. For now. In the next few years...

And for quietness, at the moment (also for over 20 years now) I live in a six-family house. Most of the time it's quiet enough, but every few weeks someone wants to drill, have a party, or make noise in some other way. Not to mention the daily "who can slam the apartment door the loudest" competition!

But I also believe that noise-wise a detached house that is a little distance (100m) from the nearest, preferably not too busy street, is quite quiet enough. It should definitely be quieter than what I have now. And if there's also a nice view from the windows, all the better, but that's really not the most important criterion.

In my opinion, all of that can be combined, but maybe not within my budget (although I think it's not too bad).

My idea with the islands is that if enough people live there, a certain infrastructure must be available (not every island resident can constantly go shopping on the mainland), that hardly any cars drive there, at least no through traffic, and on top of all that, the air is probably better (without exhaust fumes) and even the risk of burglary decreases because you can't just drive up easily and already be in the next federal state before the police secure the first traces.

What I haven't mentioned yet: from then on I will have a lot of time, but what I don't have is any manual skills; I won't (be able to) do renovations or remodeling myself.

And decide on the area first and then search there — I think that's the wrong way for me. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe that each area can change so much after a few hundred meters that a "great" becomes an "impossible" (or vice versa).

The 113023246 already looks interesting, thanks Matthew03!

I wouldn't go to an island. It would also be important to me that a hospital etc. are nearby. I would rather rent. Then you are flexible and have your assets for other things. Even if you ever need care or a nursing home, you have enough in reserve and don't have another property dragging you down... Take a look at Seedomaine in Bodmann. Great location and you are right on the water. You can use the entire infrastructure. I know that some apartments there are also rented out. Well connected and you can get around the whole Lake Constance and the alpine region by bus, train, ferry, bicycle. For example, Immoscout 111839176. but there are others as well.

I also think Rügen can meet your criteria well if you like the sea. It would definitely draw me there, Glowe, Sagard for example .. quiet but you have everything.

Then you live in the middle of nowhere and are (probably) dependent on a car. Detached does not necessarily mean quiet, by the way. Just think of all the neighbors who spend their time in the garden on weekends (and also during the week). Mowing the lawn, sitting outside late into the evening making "noise," noisy children in the gardens, or if you live rurally, farmers working their fields. Oh, your neighbors actually live! I think the problem is not the neighbors. You are more "fussy." So first look for a nice place to live and then see where it is in Germany? That is nonsense. No, it's not about the budget, but about mutually exclusive wishes. Very rosy painted. Just google (specialist) doctors or supermarkets on the islands. Either you live totally remote, where nothing else is. Then please always go out by bike in any weather – you will have to go often, since not much fits on a bike. The only solution is a cargo bike. Or you live where there is also life. And tourists. And then noise too.

I first see the wishes as a well-considered list of requirements. Of course, there are quiet apartments within walking distance of shopping facilities. I can think of dozens of villages in beautiful landscapes. When you see how delivery services are developing, you will be able to get almost everything delivered even from somewhat remote locations – just not so spontaneously. You can also take a taxi for weekend shopping or simply have someone do the shopping for you. As long as shopping is not a favorite pastime but is about supplying necessities, there are many solutions. Neighbors naturally have the right to drill, mow, blow leaves, or celebrate from time to time. That’s part of life. If that is problematic for you, I recommend a soundproof retreat room. From your description of your (non-)relationship with your relatives, the noise from neighbors, and your apparently limited rootedness in your long-term place of residence, one might conclude that you seek contact to a small extent and that other people sometimes get on your nerves. If that is the case, not only the micro-location but also the "type of people" in the region influences your well-being. I think the tip to travel a bit is great.
