How to check if/how much exterior walls are out of plumb?

We are currently in the middle of construction, quite far along. Due to negative experiences among friends, we now want to check if the exterior walls fit. Because at least by eye it looks like the south wall is no longer completely vertical/straight after applying the plaster. We have reported it to the construction company and someone will take a look at it next week. However, we would also like to check it ourselves. A 2m spirit level from the hardware store helps us with the interior walls but not with the high exterior walls. A Bosch laser level is a nice idea, it cost 30 euros but the laser beam is not strong enough to be seen well outdoors. How can we measure this ourselves before - if necessary - possibly having it checked by an expert?

Have you ever tried the laser beam in the dark? Otherwise, make a "simple" plumb line by hanging a long string from one of the upper windows with a weight attached? At the top, for example, 10 cm away from the wall and then measure at the bottom as well.

The laser beam is more visible in the dark but then you see the house wall and corners less clearly again. You basically have to try it out and catch the right time in the late afternoon. The thing with the plumb line is also a good idea :-)

Whether something is plumb is measured, as Maria writes, with a plumb line. When you choose your wall colors, you don’t take a spectrometer with you either.

So we took some measurements on Friday. A plumb line was dropped from the upstairs window on the exterior wall, the distance between the plumb line and the house wall was 4 cm at the top of the upstairs window, and 3.6 cm near the floor, a difference of 4 mm. For verification, the same was done inside, difference 3 mm. This should mean the exterior wall is within the tolerances (according to [DIN 18201] and [DIN 18202]), right? Tested with a laser beam at the adjacent corners, it also seemed to run parallel to the wall edge of the wall in question.

Buy your shell builder something. He is very precise. If the rest also has such tolerances, everything is great.
