That is 5 bft. That shouldn’t be too little.

At 3 bft the gusts are at 5 bft, and every sensor will retract the awning as soon as the bushes are shaking.
How wide and how far out should the awning be?
Solid construction or timber frame,
with external thermal insulation?

I will quote myself. I wrote this 2 years ago and I still see it that way. The awning was a mistake that we will not repeat. Especially because of its size, the awning was very susceptible; when the wind picked up, we could immediately retract it, at least a good part of it.

We had the same idea "just no posts," but at the same time it is very windy here. We decided on a 6x4m retractable arm awning and it was an absolute mistake! In heat and wind at the same time, we often have to retract the awning partially or completely and we sit there with nothing. For the new house, there will be no awning but a louvered roof instead.

Width either 4 x 4 m or 6 x 3.5 m. We are still flexible there. Solid construction, 20 cm KS and 16 cm ETICS. Installation would be in the intermediate ceiling.
