How many lumens do you have in your living room?

Hello, I am currently wondering if the lighting in our place is sufficient, or rather I am asking myself what you have hanging or standing in your living room.

Our living-dining area is about 35sqm, on one side there is a TW LED strip in a cove with 3600 lumens indirect and with an opal cover about 2800 lumens come out. Additionally, there are spotlights opposite that illuminate the cabinets with a total of 2000 lumens. That would be the basic lighting. Do you think that fits, or would it be too dark for you? I specifically bought a floor lamp for the couch. Of course, the lighting of the living wall is added. Now I am wondering if I should activate the ceiling outlet above the sofa, but that would really be a lot of lamps.

How much light do you have at your sofa?

We only have one floor lamp in a similarly sized area. That is completely sufficient

Fortunately, we have a dimmable ceiling light from Paul Neuhaus. It can be adjusted between 2000 and 5000 lumens. At night, it could certainly be less. In the store, it was very misleading and I thought it was too little.

Dimmable 150W halogen above the dining table, LED strip around the media wall and 5W LED light between dining/living (on the mini hi-fi rack). Mostly only the 5W are lit, except when eating of course. (Total 36 sqm)

Lumen is not brightness, but luminous flux. Whether it is too dark, too bright, or pleasant cannot be determined from the value. In any case, the amount of luminous flux is sufficient to achieve a good result when used properly. In the pictures, the lighting in the kitchen and dining area seems successful to me; the light distribution is accentuated and apparently still provides good working light. The LED strip on the living room head wall would be too bright for me since it is directly visible, and it seems to visually reduce the room height because it creates a distinctive line below the ceiling. As functional lighting, it is not suitable, and as ambient light, it lacks punch. A somewhat more indirect version and the inclusion of additional surfaces (for example, all around or the suggestion of a gate leading outside) would be an improvement. Above or near the living room table, I consider accent lighting to be useful. I’m thinking less of ceiling lighting and more about a floor lamp. Have a look at "Athene Bookowski."

Thank you for the feedback, originally the coving was planned all around, but the WAF was in the basement, the argument was: It would then look like a spaceship. That's why I set it a bit lower to get enough light into the room. It is now about 15 cm below the ceiling. A floor lamp near the table would be something, or the suggestion of a gate. But when I read that some are satisfied with just a floor lamp, then the coving and the spotlights are enough as basic lighting. I would like to measure the lux sometime but I’m not going to get a measuring device for that. I often find that people underestimate how adaptive the eye can work at night.
