How many coats for good coverage?

We have a scratch coat plaster with 1mm and fleece wallpaper on ceilings and sloping roofs. It is white and textureless. Everywhere there is drywall, you can still see the green color through. Our general contractor contract only includes one coat of paint. The painter has now selflessly made us an offer for a second coat of paint. I would have liked to see if one coat is already sufficiently covering. With the plaster, I think it will work out, it already looks good now. But what about one coat on the green drywall boards? I would have liked to see it first, then possibly commission a second coat. The costs are not insignificant, but the painter said I should say so now, so he can plan and order paint right away. I think he just wants to put pressure on me; I think he is trying to earn some extra money. Maybe the general contractor negotiated too hard. What do you think? Is one coat of paint enough?

Hello,

that depends a lot on the paint used. With a good paint, one coat is enough. With the typical 'DIY store paints', people often apply two coats.

Although there are exceptions. I now only use 'professional paint' that I get through a painter friend. It costs a few euros more per bucket but covers perfectly.

Since the work is done by a professional, he said he only uses "good" paint. What else is he supposed to say.....but I would assume that.

Good, not very good. There are few colors that are sufficient once according to the manufacturer's specifications.

If you look at Caparol, for example, there are 3-4 price levels for the craftsman with corresponding qualities.

He will not voluntarily buy Indeko plus. Especially if he already gives you an offer for painting twice.

I can only recommend Polarweis from schöner Wohnen. It's available at Bauhaus in a 25l bucket, the price per liter is really reasonable.

But that is dispersion. I would only use silicate paint.
