Hello everyone! I live in a beautiful old building with a basement built from natural stone. The walls are not smooth but quite rough. For a few years now, the walls have been getting increasingly damp, and water seems to be pressing in from the outside. How can I dry the walls myself? Due to the rough surface texture, it is hardly possible to apply a sealant to the masonry from the inside, right?

Hello Alexandros,

sealing from the inside does not help much because the water penetrates from the outside and still wets the wall. In such a case, the wall must be sealed from the outside. The rugged wall surface is first plastered to create a smooth surface, and then it is sealed.

Exactly from the inside, that doesn’t help. Apply plaster on the outside to make everything smooth. Then install a waterproofing layer. However, the moisture level should be checked beforehand. A specialist can provide good information here.

That was also in my parents' house. The moisture came from the groundwater. However, the walls were sealed from the inside. A company came and drilled holes in the walls. Then a special funnel was used to fill in a pink liquid. It crystallized, and the holes were sealed a day later.

And the walls are dry. But I no longer remember the name of this liquid.

Hello and thank you very much for your information, dear Serena.

I have the same problem and have already tried quite a few things. However, without success. I am interested in this method that the company used.

I have to check if there is a company like that in my region.

So doing it from the inside doesn't help, it remains wet and damp. I did it from the outside and applied a layer of plaster. Then the insulation and then the wall was covered with an exterior plaster.
