True. I once read (and that’s how we do it) that compost is a bit of everything. There would be eggshells, coffee, uncolored cellulose wipes, ashes, vegetable scraps, fruit scraps without citrus, some leaves, little grass clippings, garden waste without thick branches. It’s the mix that makes it :)

Yes, the problem is probably that before moving in, we had piled up 2000m² of mown meadow, which was about 1m high, all in one heap. At that time, we didn’t have a mulcher yet and the construction workers wanted to get rid of the stuff before they started.

Now it’s different. There is a mixed assortment on the second compost side. By the way, we don’t put eggshells in – too rich in lime for the soil.

We took out the contents at the bottom once a year and mixed through the top at the same time. I call that layering or rearranging. It worked great.

A handful of fresh earthworms on it, that speeds things up immensely. In our newly established garden, I also spread 3 kg of earthworms last year to bring a bit of air and life into the soil, because the delivered topsoil was completely worm-free.

What do you mean "took out from the bottom"? How many "piles" do you have?
