Hello,

we (I mean my wife and our child) plan to move into a house together with her parents (my parents-in-law).

I have looked at various options for living together. It is important to me that there are 2 separate apartments. Living together, yes, but please everyone with privacy. :D

What is currently forming as an idea for me is the option of a house with a granny flat as the most cost-effective solution. The granny flat should be somewhat smaller than the main apartment in the house. But it would probably be more than enough for the parents since they are currently living on 25 sqm :(.

I have a catalog from IBG Haus here with an example floor plan, but I can't really imagine anything concrete from it, the description is unfortunately also very sparse.

Can someone briefly explain to me whether such a house with a granny flat has 2 separate lockable apartments (only 1 front door, because it saves connection costs).

Are there other similar options?

Best regards

Hi,

with most of the sample floor plans, a lot can still be changed. If the company also has a show house, then you could take a look at it!

When more than one generation lives under one roof, it is especially important that everyone has their own separate area.

You can do it however you want. The connection fees don't have to change because of that. A second entrance door just costs a few euros. Of course, you can also do it inside with a lockable apartment door.

Look at as many providers as possible and compare the service descriptions carefully. If possible, use the sample construction description from Verbraucherschutz and have the providers fill it out.

They don't like doing that - but you should just insist on it.

Hi,

there are many building centers where you can look at show homes, that is much more informative than just having a plan.

Hi,
the arrangement with the [Einliegerwohnung] is certainly the best solution for the parents-in-law because who wants to be on top of each other all day? I think then it can also be separated, I mean because of the operating costs like heating and electricity etc.
