Did I interpret that correctly? Have you decided on your grandpa’s farm?
It’s great that you found the right thing for yourselves! That’s worth so much.

Of course, we want to weigh everything as much as possible. But you just can’t do that when it comes to life.
We could certainly live well with any option. One has these advantages, the other those... And it’s the same with the disadvantages.
It would just be nice to finally make a decision. In July, we will have another child, and during parental leave it would be optimal to tackle everything.

We will just have to recalculate everything we want/have to invest in the parental home and then probably weigh whether it’s worthwhile for us.

Unfortunately, the municipality here is not very lenient. Although we haven’t really tried everything yet. Maybe it would still be an option to follow up again.

Exactly. Grandpa's farm was torn down and rebuilt. There are hardly any plots of land for sale here.

Only you can decide.

By the way, it’s still not quite clear to me how the existing building and the 1980 extension combine with the "outdoor area" – was it only allowed to build onto one (the "inner") side back then?

*LOL* Manure-to-electricity conversion (also possible without your own dairy cattle) is also agricultural activity ;-)

The building authority told us that it would probably be possible to add an extension to the house. Therefore, it was probably also okay 40 years ago. We could probably also convert a shed into a residential house, PROVIDED the foundations remain. However, it is probably not worth it in our case. They also said clearly and distinctly that if the old house were demolished, no new one could be built here. Only if the foundations remain...

That sounds strange. The extension will hardly have used old foundations (?)

Maybe I expressed myself unclearly. Sorry. An extension is basically possible. The story about the foundation walls referred to the shed. You are not allowed to build a new building on the property. However, it might be possible to convert the shed (since it has existing rights) into a residential house, for which the walls would have to be used. At least that's how we understood it. And specifically in the case where my parents' house would be torn down, you wouldn’t be allowed to build a new house here because it is located in an external area. ...Unless...you used foundation walls. As I said, I can only pass on what was explained to us...
