Hello,

our WP Vaillant VWL 55/6 has been running since October 24 and the heating engineer / electrician still hasn’t quite finished with the registration... Now there was an email from EWE-Netz:
"To ensure everything runs smoothly from the start, we have checked whether the performance of your device is compatible with your house connection and our network. The answer is 'No, unfortunately not.' - the individual components are not yet adequately dimensioned. Your connection and our network first need reinforcement."

Today we received an offer for the upgrade of our house connection:
"Construction cost subsidy power increase from 30kW to 40kW"
Total with VAT 370€.

Does this happen more often and is it justified? Our house was built in 1997,
the main switch in the fuse box has 63A and on the transfer box under the fuse box it says 1x3 NH 00 500V.

The house is normally equipped, but we also have a wallbox that could theoretically draw 11.1 kW.

Best regards

EWE can decide on the connection value, you have no say in that. I have seen prices for something like this higher before. Just get it done and don’t get upset about it anymore. It’s pointless.

Are devices up to 11kw not only subject to notification?
How does the supplier then come to "reject" it?
And besides, you already have a 44kw connection.
What do they want to change there for the 370€?

The fact that the main switch in the fuse box is rated at 63A is not an indication of how the network connection is dimensioned. Here, the SLS (selective circuit breaker) determines this. The SLS belongs to the network provider, basically to the meter, and not yet to the house. Therefore, I assume that EWE knows what they have installed. In any case, the SLS already. If the connection cable only has a cross-section of 10mm² instead of the 16mm² required for 40kW, it must also be replaced. The network inspection includes the dimensioning in the low-voltage network to include any necessary work there. The price does not seem too high to me.

Don't worry, RotorMotor, you'll learn that in your second year of training. Because what the main switch "has" or what is written on the fuse box about which fuse type is needed, says absolutely nothing about which fuses the house connection currently has.

Presumably, it is currently 3x40A NH00, which means about 27kW. The supplier now wants to increase that to... probably 3x63A, which would mean nearly 44kW. And that costs money, because someone has to go there, change the fuses, install a new seal, handle the administration, etc. 370 EUR is probably at the higher end, but that’s just how it is.

PS: A house connection neither has 10 nor 16². Commonly used are NYY 5x35mm², maybe sometimes 5x25mm² for cost-saving reasons.

I would just bet that uses it synonymously.

But yes, he should clarify which NH fuses are installed.
Although he probably can't see that because it's sealed.

If I am correct with the synonym assumption and a 63A SLS is installed, then the NH fuses before it are also 63A or higher.
