It's a trendy thing that goes along with the desire for walls that are as smooth and flawless as possible. It just conceals again without applying thickly.

Having the whole house painted twice cost about €2500, completely wallpapered would have been about €5000 extra. We declined gratefully.

Wallpaper is not a cure-all for cracks. Wallpaper also tears.

I wouldn't call it a trend, it has existed forever. The demands of builders have increased, and with them the technical effort required to meet these demands.

Ah ok our walls are neither straight nor smooth and then [Malervlies] would probably be pearls before swine

There are wonderful walls without painter's fleece. The question was what this is used for.

Unfortunately, I can confirm that. We have expensive fleece underneath and still one or the other crack. Some really long, others shorter... a pity, but probably unavoidable if you don’t wallpaper or don’t want wallpaper.

No fleece. Many cracks at the transitions to the drywall, logical. And also a few on the ceiling. But we prefer to see where it moves.
