Hello,

are there manufacturers that have wood on an aluminum door outside (also gladly inside). I do not mean this wood decor, but real wood panels.

So far I have only found Kneer Südfenster, but they are somewhat difficult in terms of distribution.

Thanks Bart

I have also found nothing like that with them and am not familiar with such a thing, although I worked for an aluminum building components manufacturer. This would also be a difficult material combination the other way around. Aluminum on wood is already delicate; only a few can do that. But wood on aluminum, I would say, no one does. What do you expect from this very special combination?

I thought they do it like that. They have a separate category [Holz-Aluminiumhaustür], but to be honest, I don’t really know which way it actually is now.

My parents have a pure wooden door and it has warped a bit over the years. I thought that an aluminum leaf overall is more "torsion-resistant" than a pure wooden door, and maybe safer. Also, I don’t find the wood decors as well-made as a real piece of wood. Many say you can’t tell, but somehow I think you can still see it.

Earlier, I finally also talked to a sales partner here in our region. The door we picked out is completely made of wood and even meets RC2. So, the security issue is probably off the table for now.

Wooden doors are not a bad thing, quite the opposite. Just pay attention to the type of wood, as Meranti is often used at the entry-level price. I keep wondering why that is still allowed.

The door would actually be made of Meranti. Alternatively, one could choose pine, but only "light" finishes are possible with that. What is so bad about Meranti?

The stuff is generally illegally logged from rainforests in Indonesia (and neighboring countries). If at all, only buy with a seal (FSC etc). There are also different Meranti woods, which have very different quality. But you only buy "meranti" and therefore do not know how good the wood really is. In addition, the good variants have already been logged to such an extent that scrap is mixed in. Hardly recognizable with the naked eye. You can also google it. The internet is full of information about it.
