Hollow bricks and mineral insulation unfavorable?

In the base area, XPS is mostly used because of its compressive strength, yes. Also for insulation under floor slabs, under underfloor heating (where often only EPS is used).

Using XPS as screed insulation would also be a very bad idea... the stuff is wonderfully compressive, but because of that, it also transmits sound very well.
