I now have the option to either buy the geothermal borehole heat pump heating system directly or to rent it, for example from [EWZ].

Sure, I think it would probably be cheaper in the end if I bought the system directly. But then I would likely also need a maintenance contract, which I wouldn't have if I rented it?!

What would you advise me then?

Hello Mike,

So a geothermal heat pump, I think, is the best you can get when it comes to heat pumps! Whether renting or buying is better, I unfortunately can't tell you exactly. How much does the heat pump cost monthly? Because a heat pump with ground probe etc. also costs about Fr. 35,000-40,000.-

You could do the calculation yourself now, whether renting is more economical or rather buying.

Hi Globe

I have just finished reading the contract completely. Almost 20 pages! This is actually not even a rental agreement, but rather a payment installment contract.

I would have to pay around CHF 3,000 annually including domestic hot water, and then after 15 years I would have to buy the system at the residual price plus an additional cost.

That would actually mean, if I had the necessary money, it would be much better or cheaper if I bought the whole thing outright! That’s obvious...

By the way, how does the maintenance of such a system work? Because this would not be included if I bought it, only if I rented it.

Regards Mike

Hello,

I didn’t even know that you can rent such systems?! Possibly, of course, an alternative, but only if you want to spend the money on something else (e.g. a larger home or something) and you know that the costs for the so-called "repayment" that also comes with it fit well within the budget.

Can you also buy heat pumps like this from other utilities? And does this only apply to ground probe heat pumps or in general?

Best regards

We received at the end of 06 from Stiebel Eltron (because my current heat pump is from them) a letter stating that as of 01.2007 a new substance regulation will come into effect, according to which heat pumps containing more than 3 kg will require approval, respectively must be periodically checked for leaks. Of course, they also immediately offered me such a maintenance contract – how selfless :(

May I ask you what this maintenance contract costs and for what period?
