Hello, we are currently planning our house. It will be 1.5 stories with a basement. It will be built solidly. The basement, the ground floor, and the upper floor are to be heated in the house. Altogether about 200sqm. Underfloor heating is to be installed throughout the entire house. The house will be built in an area where there is no gas connection, so at most one could rent gas tanks. We definitely do not want oil. Of course, we would prefer a heat pump. Can you recommend one? Alternative energy sources are also welcome. Kind regards

Hello,
With gas or equivalent conventional heat generators, a solar thermal system, which is often uneconomical in single-family houses, usually has to be purchased compulsorily. The cheaper way here is better insulation => 15% rule. Liquid gas is usually an expensive option.
With conventional heat generators based on combustion, the consumption is always higher than the demand, so the achievable annual efficiency plays an important role.
Here the consumption is lower than the demand. Therefore, from an economic point of view, the insulation requirements are less demanding.
However, here the necessities of careful and exact planning of the entire system are particularly high. If this is neglected, one quickly ends up with a money pit and the theoretically high efficiency cannot actually be utilized. A defect from which currently quite a few, especially GU/GÜ systems, suffer.
For this, the specific conditions of the construction project would have to be known; anything else would be a look into a very murky crystal ball.
In principle, air heat pumps, brine heat pumps, and less frequently groundwater heat pumps come into question.
First, have the actual demand (power, energy) for heating and hot water calculated. In connection with the respective solution, this results in the actual consumption, with which an investment can then be evaluated.

Best regards

Hello Euro,

thank you very much for your feedback.

How can I best determine the actual demand?

- The area to be heated is about 200 sqm, with the basement (60 sqm) not always heated
- 4 people live in the house
- Water storage approx. 400l
- Construction site Baden-Württemberg, district Heilbronn

I think it is hardly feasible for a layperson. Even "experts" often have considerable problems with this. Such matters should rather be left to a professional, and the "own work" focused on things where there is not so much that can go wrong. What is needed, among other things, in any case is a building "framework" where the geometry as well as the components are defined. How do you come to that, if the capacity of the heat generator is unknown?

Regards.

Does anyone know the Thermia Atec air-to-water heat pump? Is it good? What are the pros and cons of it?

How naive can one actually be? A manufacturer can never guarantee an annual performance factor, as the specific execution of the construction project is completely unknown to them. Anyone with a different opinion can have an annual performance factor guaranteed by contract

best regards
