Hello everyone,

I am 100% sure that there is a post in this forum stating that shower fittings with thermostats should be used regularly. Unfortunately, I can no longer find the post and I don’t know how the thread continued. Therefore, my question: Is that correct? Can the thermostat fitting be damaged if it is not used for several weeks?

Edit: A small additional question: Is there anything to consider when laying the pipes for the fitting (in my case a surface-mounted fitting in the guest shower) if a thermostat fitting is to be used?

Thanks in advance for the help

No, the thermostat valve does not suffer from non-operation. The pipes are laid normally - hot and cold. The thermostat in the mixer then regulates the flow. There are different installation widths - therefore I would choose the valve beforehand.

I would mainly ensure that no branch line leads to the thermostat, but that it is installed on flow plates. If a frequently used consumer is connected afterward, this avoids stagnation during infrequent use.

Otherwise, thermostats can have problems with (hydraulic) instantaneous water heaters because they influence each other’s settings.
