Sure, but then the showerhead would still be facing the exit. And you don't usually go all the way to the end of the shower anyway. I think I'll leave it as attached, hoping that it will still fit. Out of feeling, I would say that the shower sprays more to the side than in the direction the showerhead points. Usually, it only has a slight inclination and the water splashes more frontally onto the body, so that the body deflects the splashes more towards the side.

I think I'll have it done as attached, hoping that it still fits.

I would also put both on the short side. When showering as in your own drawing, you tend to bump your elbow/hip or whatever on the fixture otherwise. At least that's how I imagine it.

It's me again. So, put the fitting and showerhead on the short side, but would you place the showerhead in the middle or pointing away from the shower entrance? It's just a wall and no door, so that as little water as possible splashes out.
