Tomato seeds germinate very well if the slimy coating is allowed to mold beforehand. That hinders germination. I saw it from Grandpa like this: to make Grandma angry, mix a few teaspoons of tomato seeds with some water, grab a good saucer, put it on the windowsill, and wait until all the wetness has molded. The tomato seeds didn’t get damaged from that; he cultivated them commercially. In January, the seeds were sown, in our case on a cold frame with at least two-year-old horse manure underneath (otherwise too hot), covered with a little very fine soil, and the plants were pricked out at a size of 5-10 cm.
If you don’t have a Grandma, however, I don’t know how that should work :)
