Hello everyone, we are currently planning our house. Now, it is the case that a house with a basement exceeds our budget. We have a plot of land that was developed by the municipality after the demolition of a daycare center. During this demolition, earthworks also took place. Now, the level between the excavated pit and the street, meaning also for a single-family house, is about 1.50 m difference. We do not yet have a soil survey because we are not yet the owners. The soil is probably clayey with gravel and sandstone deposits. Now my questions: can it be filled up enough to raise the level that much? Is that even structurally possible? Or is it then cost-wise such that the basement costs about the same?

Funny houses there in the background:)

To be honest, I can't quite reconcile your description with the picture. The picture is bad anyway, perspectives are deceptive. I don't really see a "pit" in the picture.

Is there a plan with contour lines? Where is the house supposed to go?

You wrote there was demolition/earthworks beforehand, something with a pit and a daycare. Then you say the soil is clayey/gravel etc.

Is there "natural ground" where the foundation slab/house is supposed to go? Or is it filled up/added soil?

I think you should make the conditions a bit clearer. As mentioned, best with a plan.

There is a depression, not a pit - and yes, you can fill it, but that also costs money, because it needs to be compacted, etc etc.
