Hello everyone,

we want to switch providers for electricity and gas. First of all: yes, I know that you can't generalize this to every family, that's why I'm talking about average values. The following situation:
- house 163 sqm
- no basement
- 2 adults
- 1 child (1.5 years)
- underfloor heating

For the average electricity consumption, we refer to the local comparison portals. We take 4250 per year.
But we have a harder time with gas. What values did you use and how did you fare with them? Did you tend to estimate too low or too high? The recommended differences for gas are quite large. One states 20000 kWh for a single-family house with 4 people. Another states 30000 kWh for a single-family house with 2 people.

On the one hand, I don't want to be unnecessarily financially burdened monthly, but on the other hand, I also don't want to get a huge additional bill after a year.
Does anyone have experience or a tip on what works well or how to approach this topic?

I know it depends on the respective living situation, some like it cozy warm all year round, others only turn on the heating at 0 degrees. It's not about exact values, but about experiences with what you consume per year.

That's really like peas in a pod. Just estimate for the first year and then there will either be an additional payment or a refund. Both come out the same.

You yourself write that it's impossible. So how are strangers supposed to estimate your consumption if you can't even manage it yourself?

In the new building, two of us have an electricity consumption of about 1500kwh/year. The consumption portals suggest 3500kwh/year to me...

I can't say anything about gas, because of the geothermal heat pump (own meter).

I didn't claim anything else, but just read the post again. Thanks.

The same applies here, just read my initial post again. Furthermore, it could be helpful, for example, if someone has a similar square meter size, also 2 adults living with 1 child. Normal heating situation. And consumption of 18000 per year. That's a reference point. Even if "normal heating situation" is surely interpreted differently by everyone...

If maybe 10 answers all consume between 15000 and 20000, that's a reference point. But if 10 answers come in and the range is from 1000 to 500000, then it gets more difficult. And I don't expect anything else, just to get a feeling for it. I also won't sue anyone if I then have 1 kWh more.

We have 156m² and are two people. Heating is rather economical at 20-21° in all living areas and 21-22° in the bathroom. Electricity is almost exactly 2500kWh and gas also exactly 10000kWh. With a child, it will of course be a bit more.

It's really just guesswork. How big is your bathtub, how often do you bathe? How warm are the rooms? Is there a wood stove? What energy standard? Simply way too many variables. Just take the average value and add 20% to it, then you'll be absolutely sure. And next year you'll be happy about a big refund. More than 60-80€ in monthly gas costs shouldn't occur in a new building...

Last year with four people, 190 sqm plus conservatory (heated through) about 24,000 kWh

Year built 1974, conservatory 1984.

New building? Anything over 10,000 would be very, very wrong.
