Hello,

I am currently planning a house with an outbuilding. The house will be operated with a gas condensing boiler. The garage is located 5m away from the house. How can I quickly heat it at certain times (2-3 times a week)? Can I use an air heater connected to my gas boiler, or is the gas boiler not capable of that? The room in the garage has a volume of about 220m³ and should be heated to about 15-18 degrees. Which solution is inexpensive and, of course, also cheap to maintain?

Regards, Fabian

Hello,

can no one help me? I have done further research on the internet. The problem is probably the flow temperature? What about radiant heaters on the ceiling? Are they effective and do they heat the room up quickly?

I simply believe there is also a lack of information. Basically, it depends on the performance reserves of the gas boiler. If it has enough "power," I could imagine that. As far as I know, gas boilers can modulate well (so that they don't cycle too much, but still have enough power when needed). Radiant heaters actually require a particularly high supply temperature. If it is a low-temperature system, I can well imagine heaters in combination with fans, meaning heaters on and fans running when needed, so it heats up quickly. In terms of cost/affordability, I believe that is "never" really the case; heating 220m^3 simply requires a certain amount of energy. But I am not a heating engineer who knows how to combine this well, for example regarding temperature differential and the building’s standard heating system.

The radiant power increases with the FOURTH power of temperature, but only increases linearly with the area. So what is more effective to quickly heat a room?
Also, I don't believe that a garage used as a workshop has a lot of space and free area (no obstacles for the radiation to reach everywhere). When I think of radiant power, I rather thought of a system with, for example, 1 thick pipe on the ceiling or similar.
By the way: marble heaters usually have a surface temperature of 85-100°C. For me, that corresponds to a high supply temperature.

After a bit of searching, you can also find out that a wall heating system with pipes (thinly plastered) provides about 85W per square meter at 35°C supply temperature. You would then need a pretty large area to warm an uninsulated garage in winter. One requirement was "quick." I don’t believe that 100 m^2 or more of area is available..

Hello, You can use fan convectors, radiators, etc. in conjunction with a gas boiler. The decisive factors are the heating load of the building and outbuildings.

Best regards

Hello,

I have now received a few offers from heating companies. They all say that I won't achieve much with a low flow temperature. They all suggest running the garage at a flow temperature of 70 degrees and installing vertical radiators there. The house should operate with a 35-degree flow. A Weishaupt WTC 25 is to be used. It has 25kW. Isn't that a bit much? My house has a heating load (at 20 degrees) of 4kW and the garage as well (at 10 degrees). What do you think about that?

Regards, Fabian
