Hello,
we are currently planning the new construction of a detached house with a gable roof. We really like the version with the so-called shield gable (example picture see attachment), but our architect said that this represents a significant structural risk and also brings many other disadvantages:
- As an internal roof, the likelihood of water ingress is considerable
- Regular maintenance is required
- More expensive to manufacture (approx. 1500 EUR for a detached house with 150 m² living space)
In the new development areas in Münsterland, it feels like every third house has a shield gable. I now wonder: Are the builders all so risk-friendly, or is our architect exaggerating?
Thanks for your opinions and experiences.
Best regards
