Hello

I was looking at various pieces of furniture today. I got some information, etc.

Now I am wondering what happens if, for example, the couch doesn't fit through the stairwell.
The window installers, thank God, still had a crane available to transport a 3m long window frame upstairs. This probably wouldn't have gone through the stairwell that easily.

A couch is, for example, a bit more cumbersome and I fear that it won't fit through the stairwell if an element is longer than 2.5m.

I wanted to have the furniture delivered anyway, even into the apartment.
So if the couch doesn't fit through the stairwell, who has the problem?
Is it me or the furniture store?

Who has a problem when the couch doesn’t fit through the staircase? Are you kidding? And do you think the window installer brings the crane along for fun? Who do you think pays for that? But I think you are joking. If it’s actually a serious question, then you have a problem.

Hehe, well... Today we bought a new bed. Ikea didn’t have ours, but it didn’t really look good in person anyway, so we drove on to Höffner.
They currently have 19%+10%...
We had to sign that a) the size of the furniture fits through the stairwell and b) the placement location is suitable.

So what did you sign or what is in the fine print?

By the way, on our contract the clause about the accessibility of the stairwell/placement location was _handwritten_...
Basically, the clause was probably missing or alternatively they remind the buyer again (we haven’t checked yet)...

An element with a length of 2.5m? On the one hand, the movers know pretty well what fits where and how, and on the other hand, even the designers are so clever that they are usually modules that can be screwed together. Our 3.20m couch consists of 3 parts.

What could solve the problem is called a tape measure, meter stick.....So arm yourself with one and just measure, problem solved. And if the furniture store has to bring a crane, turntable ladder, aerial work platform or similar, definitely let them know. It will cost extra.

So, first of all, the window installer didn’t bring the crane; it was already there for the roofers. The window installers were just glad to be able to use the crane because there were apparently problems with the stairwell. I wasn’t there at the time myself, but that’s what I was told.

Why I have a problem now isn’t quite clear to me, and yes, it was a serious question....
Basically, I just wanted to know how it works with furniture stores. What if you decide on a piece of furniture that is to be delivered but doesn’t fit through the stairwell and therefore can’t be delivered?
So, do the costs fall on the furniture store since the delivery was assured to me by the furniture store?

ypg has already given a suitable hint here. I haven’t signed anything yet because I haven’t bought anything.

I also understand that a sofa has several elements. A U-shaped sofa usually consists of three large elements. But if one of these is more than 2.5 m long, it will be difficult to get this element into the apartment.
A dining table is also a bulky and critical piece.
