In the State Building Code for Schleswig-Holstein, the following is stated on the subject of full stories:
Full stories are above-ground floors if at least three quarters of their floor area have a height of at least 2.30 m. A top floor recessed relative to at least one exterior wall of the building or a floor with at least one sloping roof surface is a full story if it has a height of at least 2.30 m over at least three quarters of the floor area of the story below; the height of the stories is measured from the upper edge of the floor to the upper edge of the floor of the ceiling above, in the case of stories with roof surfaces up to the upper edge of the roof covering.
We want to build a house with a gable roof and are considering placing a captain's gable on the north side and either another captain's gable on the south side or extending the gable roof in an L-shape.
Concerning the State Building Code, we have the following questions:
Is the wall footprint included in the floor area of the upper story or only the floor area of the individual rooms?
What about the stairwell; is it counted as part of the floor area?
And the last sentence ";the height of the stories [..]" — does this apply only to the recessed upper stories or is it generally valid?
Thank you very much!
