I think one also has to differentiate by region here. In urban areas, with land prices of €1000/sqm or even much higher, I see no future for single-family houses either. Who could still afford that when the land alone costs more than the total budget of many other builders? It simply does not make sense to use so much scarce space for single-family houses, and more can be gained with terraced houses and smaller apartment buildings. In rural areas, it looks different. There, the single-family house will certainly remain the preferred form of living permanently.

I see it similarly, just want to add that even in rural areas the regional differences are very large and there are now also areas where it really is quite difficult.

I find it regrettable that you wish your child/children a future in Germany when you can also live comfortably in Switzerland and your children have or will receive Swiss citizenship. Especially in times of war and flight, I would not leave Switzerland for Germany. I believe friends can also be found in Switzerland. Likewise, the question arises whether one or the other relative of yours would not prefer to live in Switzerland and relocate there in the medium term. (Looking to the future, I am thinking of topics such as compulsory military service in Germany, among others.)

But if it is your absolute wish to live in Germany instead of Switzerland, then I think it is good not to hesitate any longer and to buy the property.

We ourselves have good friends in Switzerland who moved to St. Gallen 15 years ago. From what I always gather, Switzerland is idealized a lot in Germany. Of course, everything is clean, nice, and tidy, the education system is top-notch, the social security great. But the costs can also be crushing (especially if you don't have home ownership or inheritance backing you), particularly with several children. So there are definitely aspects that one can also appreciate about Germany.

And don't forget, Swiss citizenship has such high hurdles that even a very large part of the long-term resident population in Switzerland does not have it. And since you mention the topic of conscription... in Switzerland it is not as lax as it was in Germany in the 2000s. Keyword [Wehrpflichtersatzabgabe] ;)

That is exactly what would be important to me with children. :) That "one" has to be able to pay for it is clear.
