And why didn’t you return this question to your architect? He can hardly assume that you—as a layperson—can understand, evaluate, and answer it? Rhineland regards

Isn't there anyone here who can generally name the advantages and disadvantages of these ceiling constructions?

There are no real advantages or disadvantages! It is simply more complex to install underfloor heating above a wooden beam ceiling, or to adapt a concrete ceiling to the roof rafters. In the case of the OP, it is in my opinion a city villa, whose top floor should sensibly be designed as a wooden beam ceiling. A 30° pitch is not exactly ideal for converting the attic, unless a loggia is to be created in the roof. Ultimately, the budget as well as the OP's structural engineer decide between wood or concrete; concrete as a floor ceiling above the upper floor is more expensive. Given the house size of the OP, additional costs of easily €5,000 can be incurred. Here he must decide what the floor is to be used for AND discuss with his structural engineer whether a concrete ceiling is even necessary. Rhineland greetings

Hello,
thank you very much for the reply. The crawl space is only intended to be used as a storage floor (children's things, suitcases, etc.). No conversion is planned.

Then a concrete ceiling between the ground floor and the upper floor would be sensible, and between the upper floor and the attic a wooden ceiling, right?

Best regards, Barossi

Yes. Fully plank the floor (often only a walking plank is installed), then you can use the entire base area as storage space.

Hello everyone, I’m joining in here because we have a similar situation to decide on.

- Solid construction, 2 stories, 27° roof pitch hip roof.
- Attic is to be used only as storage space and possibly for the ventilation system.

Sound insulation would only be relevant because of the ventilation system. The roof is to be insulated, not the ceiling.

Upper floor ceiling concrete or wood?

Are the costs inevitably higher with concrete?

I would appreciate some experiences.
