Hello everyone,

we are making continuous progress with our architect. The floor plan is already very good.

Now we were asked which floor slab we want to choose?

Concrete or wooden beam ceiling - What are the advantages and disadvantages? Can someone comment on the costs?

Regarding the planning: We are planning a solid house made of sand-lime bricks and clinker. Floor area: 12.5m x 9.5m; 2 stories with a roof pitch of 30°.

Best regards, Barossi

I would guess that your architect should be able to answer that best, right? He knows the regional prices best. It is rumored that concrete ceilings have better thermal mass. When constructing wooden beam ceilings, you can apparently also do quite a few things wrong, which then results in poor sound insulation. If wooden beams, I would also make them visible right away.

A concrete floor slab above the upper floor is only worth discussing - maybe for your construction project? - if the attic is to be used for more than just storage purposes. So what is your intention for the room above the upper floor?

Rhenish greetings

Hello,
as far as I understand, it is primarily about the ceiling on the ground floor and upper floor. The small crawl space (about 1.5m high) will be done as a wooden beam ceiling, right?

Best regards, Barossi

assumed now that he wanted the whole thing as an EG floor ceiling. I know some houses with wooden beam ceilings that creak (have also personally lived in one)... hence the phrase "can be done wrong" - certainly not must.
