A standard kitchen would also do. My wife found the kitchen island more comfortable with the view of the garden (to keep an eye on the children).
No, if possible, always plan for a kitchen island. An island with an appropriate width has the advantage that you can also work from the other side. This is noticeable, for example, when baking cookies. Besides, you simply have space to work. An office desk is also more comfortable than one with a depth of 60 cm ;) However, a standing table, standing counter, or bar would of course better support communication :)
