Insulation is about, on the one hand, preventing the concrete from attacking the pipes and causing pitting corrosion in the pipes, because when condensation forms on the pipe, the whole thing becomes even more aggressive. On the other hand, it is also about protecting the cold water pipe from warming up when underfloor heating is installed, because bacteria (Legionella, enterococci, E. coli... and whatever else they’re called) feel really comfortable above 20-25°C!!!! And with the hot water pipe, it’s simply about saving energy ;o)
