Our "independent" financial intermediary of a well-known chain kept trying to broker a financing with bank X (can I mention the name here? I'll just leave it at X for now). With every further offer from other banks, which he sent us rather reluctantly and only at our insistent request, he pointed out that the offer from bank X was simply unbeatable. Overall, he sent us 5 offers from different banks, which without exception were worse than those of the local banks we also went to. Even our local savings bank had a significantly better offer in the drawer.
In the end, one of the local banks won the race. Now we pay €30,000 less interest than with the "unbeatable" offer from bank X, according to our intermediary. Unfortunately, there was not much that was truly independent about it. On the contrary. When we rejected the intermediary, we received the reply that it would have been fairer if we had given him the chance for a counteroffer. That was obviously a joke.. shouldn't he have found us the best offer from the start?
