In the 70s, prefabricated houses often had chrysotile (white asbestos) in the backing material of the vinyls, as was the case with us, confirmed by a lab sample. The adhesive looks too brownish. I would consider asbestos in the adhesive rather unlikely in this case. However, it is certainly conceivable in the vinyl. Wait for the sample and then decide what to do. Due to the previous fiber release, I agree with Asbestosteron. Fibers can be detected in every cubic meter of room air surrounding us due to human activity.

By now, we have become quite well-versed in the matter and naturally also follow the disposal regulations.

I will send the sample to the lab on Monday; the processing time after sample receipt is usually 2-3 working days. With a bit of luck, we will receive the result by the end of next week. Until then, we will probably have to keep our fingers crossed.

In the course of my research, I came across the construction pollutant documentation “Polludoc.” Under “Single-layer floor coverings (in rolls),” there is also an exemplary illustration of a PVC floor covering that looks strikingly similar to ours, with the description: “Fiber-reinforced PVC floor covering without asbestos.”

Also interesting is the information: “Adhesives that are not based on bitumen (i.e., not black) can also contain asbestos, although much less frequently than bitumen adhesives.”

I think this gives us and hopefully all fellow sufferers the long-awaited “slight all-clear” for the time being. :)

Many thanks for your support and best regards

Interesting thread & unfortunately the topic of asbestos still cannot be dismissed! It is especially found in older buildings and can lead to health damage - therefore better be safe and conduct an asbestos test or also an - that way, at least there won’t be any nasty surprises after buying the house!
