Hello,

we have bought a house in Denmark (Vejle) and on the roof there is a 2-year-old photovoltaic system, it has 6 panels and I cannot tell which they are. I assume they might be 2 kWp.

In the house we have a Fronius Primo 3.0.1 inverter, which could easily handle double or more power. There is still a lot more space on the roof, certainly 3x - 5x more.

We also have an electric car and an EVBox Elvi in the house. Our electricity consumption in the house even without the electric car seems very high, I estimate over 6-7000 kWh per year.

The local company that installed the system seems to be in luxury and unfortunately does not respond to inquiries.

My questions:

1. It makes sense to fully utilize the inverter up to the limit, right?

2. Can I hire another company to upgrade the roof or should I definitely use the same company?

3. I enjoy data analysis. I can buy a Fronius Smart Switch for 300 euros or the SMA Sunny Home Manager 2.0 for double that, with which I can also control our dishwasher. I tend to SMA.

I look forward to hearing from you and your tips!

What is the legal situation in Denmark? In Germany, depending on the age, you cannot expand the system and must build and register a new one. If there are no legal issues, I would have the roof filled with a new system by another company. So also with an additional inverter. Which one you choose is a matter of taste. You will have enough yield so that controlling the dishwasher is neither necessary nor sensible.

I don’t get any subsidy or increased feed-in tariff anyway, so it probably doesn’t matter whether I expand or not (from a legal point of view). I just think that I should fully utilize the current infrastructure (inverter, wiring, etc.), so install additional panels. As far as I understand, they only cost about 1000 euros/kWp.

But wouldn't a "raised mounting" be more sensible? Otherwise, fill the entire roof and enjoy the yield.

In the meantime, I have received a message from the local company here in Vejle/DK. They simply have no time for any more orders and I am left on my own. Crazy.

How realistic is it to build a simple frame (or flat) and 6 to 9 additional panels? I would then hire an electrician for the connection.

I have a pretty large roof area that I could fill completely, but then I would have to replace the inverter and probably soon also think about storage. Feed-in tariffs are practically non-existent here.

1000 thanks for an assessment!!!!

Hello again.

By now I roughly know which panels I have. They are from "JA Solar" and are from the JAM60S02 series. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact model (300, 305, 310, 315, or 320 watts). I really have quite a lot of roof space (3 flat roofs at different heights) and could also angle them, for example, to increase the "production window" and maximize the inverter's load.

Unfortunately, these JAM60S02 are not available anywhere, so I will probably have to sell the existing panels?!
Furthermore, I would really like to install a smart meter, either SMA Solar or Fronius or something completely different.

The Fronius Primo 3.01 is single-phase.

What is your first impression?
