Hello everyone,
our old masonry expansion joint (from the construction year ’86) had cracks in the sealing from the bottom up to the attic, so I renewed everything. The joint is not in the middle of the house, but on the last 10cm on the left side of the house (end terrace house). By the way, I don’t really understand why there is a joint there, it’s basically a gap between the masonry and the last row of bricks!? Anyway, I scraped out the old Sikaflex sealing, behind it was a sealant that had crumbled to dust, somewhat similar to a modern compressible tape. Now I ordered a PE joint cord / round sealing tape instead of compressible tape and pressed it into the joint. Afterwards, I applied Sikaflex 11FC over it. Is that okay? I read afterwards that you can also use only compressible tape without Sika. But then why was Sikaflex additionally applied before? And is it bad that I used joint cord (which apparently is not vapor permeable) instead of compressible tape (which supposedly is vapor permeable)? Actually that should not matter since Sikaflex seals everything anyway and therefore no diffusion is possible!?
Thanks for your opinions!
