In our old building currently under renovation, some doors have strange dimensions, e.g. width 84cm (raw). Since it is not far from the DIN standard, I would adjust the width accordingly in order not to have to order special sizes for the new doors. I would cut the masonry at the desired location with the angle grinder and chip away the 4cm accordingly. Is this feasible? Any tips for this? What should be especially considered for doors in load-bearing walls? Regards N

Consult a professional. You can't just chisel away something that supports the door lintel. Maybe it is wide enough, but we can't answer that for you from here.

For that, you had to ask the expert. No one here knows your house, your walls, and your door lintels! Narrowing is certainly not an issue, but widening definitely is. You can't just decide that "roughly like this."

Generally, 2 cm on each side should not be a problem. Especially with the load-bearing wall (there is often only one), expose the lintel once. After widening, it should have a minimum of 12 cm bearing on the right and left. With non-load-bearing walls, it is usually not that critical. But generally, a structural engineer is not a bad address. And/or post a few photos.

Should this necessarily be distributed on both sides with 2cm each (for balance?) Possibly 4cm on one side would better suit the room layout (and also requires less work)
