Hello everyone!

Together with my family, I want to build a house and it is almost decided that it will be a wooden house.

Regarding the heating system, the question now arises whether an exhaust and outdoor air heat pump or a ground source heat pump will be installed. The construction company, which will deliver the building ready for occupancy, recommends a ground source heat pump. On the one hand, because an outdoor air heat pump only works down to a maximum of minus 7 degrees Celsius and at lower temperatures must be heated with a power-consuming heating cartridge, and on the other hand because the construction company has a partner who could carry out the deep drilling for the ground source heat pump at a favorable price.

From another construction company, I have now received information that an exhaust and outdoor air heat pump can use the excess heat produced by a fireplace or pellet stove in the living room to heat the heating water for other rooms, which further reduces energy consumption.

Since this house is an investment in the future and will ultimately be our retirement home, I naturally want to buy the most future-proof and at the same time cost-effective system possible.

However, I am not quite clear about the differences between the two technologies as well as their advantages and disadvantages, nor has anyone been able to explain it to me in a way that I would now be able to make a decision.

I hope that I can get some help here, and if this topic already exists and I have overlooked it in my search, I apologize.

Thank you in advance for valuable tips and understandable explanations for a layperson.

Hello,
Many ask this question, but it can only be reliably answered if a solid basic investigation has been carried out beforehand.
Apparently this was neglected here, as in most cases.
A trench collector would be significantly cheaper! ;-)

Ask 10 more companies and you will receive 10 more opinions! ;-)
Then detach yourself from the statements of the sellers and consult an independent expert!

Best regards
