I am pro insulation but I like to play the Advocatus Diaboli.

Disadvantage: If the external cubature is taken as given, the living space decreases by 1 m2 for every 2.5 cm thicker stone. Per floor, of course.

That means 2 m2 less for 2 floors or, in a flat calculation, 2400 euros more in construction costs... with 5 cm thicker stone, twice as much, and so on.

The heating load savings are just 372 watts. For 150 m² that is 2.5 W/m²
0.17 1056 W
0.23 1428 W
You don’t save anything on the underfloor heating or the heat generator.

Rising energy costs are irrelevant if you finance and have to pay 1% interest on the additional costs.

All U-values are based on 36.5 cm stones. You don’t necessarily have to switch to larger ones.

We chose the thicker stone purely for aesthetic reasons ... and we like thick reveals .... and also when I saw what was sometimes cut out of the 42.5 for pipes etc., I was quite glad to have chosen it
