I currently have in my planning (gable roof, 38 degrees) 64 cm on the eaves side and 36 cm on the gable. Previously, I had planned 87 cm on the gable, but my architect advised against it for aesthetic reasons (mushroom head). And by the way, I saved 1,980 euros. However, I didn’t want less for myself, I also think that no or only a few centimeters of roof overhang looks like someone tried to save too much...

I have now found a solution on the internet that I really like a lot:
- Only reinforced battens, i.e. no visible purlins where birds could nest
- enclosed space directly under the roof
- 50cm all around

However, I have not seen this on any other house so far; usually these "roof boxes" were very thick because of the thick beams. Is this especially expensive or complicated here? My planner did not mention this option at all.
Is there a special term for this type of construction?

Hmm, with us in SH that is the norm. Certainly not particularly expensive. Karsten

Usually realized with 3-layer panels.
Should be cost-neutral, as wood is also saved compared to the solution with visible rafters and purlins.

In case anyone else is interested: is right, I asked the house builder from whom the photo originated, and these are 3-layer panels attached to 2x60 battens:
