Hello everyone,

we are currently renovating our apartment and have an old wooden floor covering in two rooms, which looks quite worn.

Unfortunately, we do not know whether the floors are real parquet that can be sanded or not. And whether it’s even worth it given the condition, or if it would be better to install a new floor covering right away.

Thanks for your tips:

Spontaneously, I would think it's possible! Try it out in one place. If it works, it's good, and if not, it has to be redone anyway. There probably aren't more variants.

If you want to sand down completely, I believe you have to have a professional do it, because these sanders are devilish devices (my experience) and leave dents in the floor immediately. Then you should weigh up the costs. Maybe the option of sanding lightly and applying varnish or hard wax oil etc. on top will work, since a few scratches will come anyway or it doesn’t really look that bad.

The wear layer looks sufficient. Unfortunately, the parquet was installed as a floating floor and not glued. Sanding is practically out of the question with this, no professional will do it without sanding edges.

So remove it and install new parquet. If the wear layer is 4 mm or more, then glue it down. Otherwise, 3 mm is enough for floating installation.

Alternatively, you can also first remove the existing one, glue it firmly, and then sand it at the end.
