hello, we received screed on Monday. now the question is how to properly (lüftet) dry the screed. it is cement screed about 6 cm thick and 160 m2. the heating will probably not be connected until next week. until then, should we occasionally ventilate briefly or keep everything closed? then I have heard several times that when the heating is running, turn on the heating and have all windows on tilt. is that the best option? isn’t it better to have the heating on with windows closed and then ventilate the whole house briefly more often. thank you in advance NundE

Hello,

in the past, screed was installed in autumn and left to dry all winter without windows; this is still the best method. This means: windows open, you do not yet have to do short-term ventilation, but leave them open, of course, only if you are not living inside. If the heating is on, you should turn it on, but not to the highest setting, the screed must not dry out too quickly. It also makes sense to ventilate by short-term airing several times a day. Tilted windows do not help at all; they only cool down the reveals, and moisture will then settle into the masonry there and, in the worst case, produce mold. So, windows open, never tilted.
