Hello,

I have a basic question.

We have a basement with a waterproofing against rising seepage water made of WU concrete and therefore no classic drainage.

Our light wells have, at the lowest point, a water drain (with a leaf basket) that leads vertically down into the 30cm thick gravel filling (under the floor slab).

Is this type of rainwater disposal okay, or would it be better (or necessary) to connect the drainage of the light wells to a separate wastewater pipe?

Regards,

Dirk

Hello,

we also have a basement made of WU concrete - however with drainage. The light wells are also connected to this.

Whether the drainage into the gravel layer is sufficient is surely known by the experts here.

Best regards

I have also placed the drainage "only" in the gravel,... It is enough for us if I turn on the garden hose full blast for 5 minutes to clean the light well - therefore I have no concerns that the drainage would be insufficient due to water from above. If water backs up from below to the extent that it is pushed upwards through the drainage, of course the drainage will not work. This risk does not exist for us. We have therefore also opted out of the waterproof light wells for 3 out of 5 light wells and instead used waterproof windows, which we will close in an emergency.
