Hello everyone,

we are currently working on a practical solution for our hallway area.

We have a relatively narrow hallway and therefore little space next to the front door entrance for shoes, etc., which is why we would like to walk about 2 meters into the house WITH shoes on and then take off and put down the shoes in a suitable place.

Thus, we need a relatively long (about 2-3 meters) runner/carpet that should of course be winter-resistant, easy to wipe/ vacuum, and also look nice visually.

It really bothers me that a normal "carpet" gets dirty very quickly, especially in winter. Washable carpets in 3 meter length (rather counterproductive for the washing machine).

Does anyone have ideas here or has already thought about something similar and possibly found something suitable?

Tiles and daily mopping. Everything else is rubbish. Beautiful rugs don’t stay beautiful for long and are delicate. Durable rugs don’t look nice and walking on them without shoes is uncomfortable. Besides, you also have to vacuum a durable rug daily.

You want to have a sand track inside the house, never. The area is unused and not walkable with socks/flip-flops without spreading sand all over the house. Suggestion: bench or chair in front of the door, take off shoes there and carry them inside.

True, I actually hadn't thought of that yet :D
That would also be the access to our basement – meaning we would inevitably walk over it with socks.

The front area is simply very narrow for us, which means the first 2 meters would inevitably get dirty.

Taking off shoes outside... Yes, you can do that, but we honestly don't really have space for such a bench, and it’s rather impractical.

Maybe we really have no choice but to place a bench inside somewhere (we actually already have one) and then put two shoe drip mats on the side. We would then have to mop the middle more or less constantly.

I once bought a large doormat at Aldi. Since the entrance area has been paved, it's sufficient to vacuum it every few days. Right by the door, we have a shoe rack with a bench where you can change shoes.

Show me the floor plan. If you have to walk through regularly, you definitely don’t want to collect dirt. Otherwise, it spreads throughout the entire house.

Here is a 3D image - it actually looks quite similar to how it was drawn back then :D

The window was completely replaced by a front door glass element and the railing of the staircase is entirely made of glass.

Currently, we have a shoe bench standing in front of the glass railing and in front of the front door a standard mat from Aldi in a "standard size" to cover the front area directly at the entrance.

On the left wall we have a drip mat (which prevents the front door from opening fully) - we are lacking some depth here. It is actually a bit deeper than it appears in the picture - a normal drip mat is still too deep to allow the front door to open completely.
