Do I still need a pantry in a kitchen with large cabinets?

See attachment: a first plan

In the top right, we have planned the kitchen and to the left of it the dining room.

1.) Question: Do I still need a pantry/storage room with a kitchen that has large cabinets?

2.) Question: Is the space sufficient? I would really like an open kitchen with a cooking island and a dining area for at least 6 people that can also be extended. I only want 2/3 children but have a very large family.

Should we enlarge the house or can all my wishes be realized in this space? Thank you for your support!!!

I assume that your kitchen area is at the top of the plan. 3.5m width is definitely too little for a spacious island kitchen.

Minimum island width 2.2m + on each side 1-1.2m

--> 4.20m width necessary

2.20m island would be too small for me? I would place it against the wall on one side and go for three 80cm, better 90cm base cabinets.

I do not interpret the erased remnants as a central island, but as a lower counter (G-shape), then the width should fit.

Relocating the basement stairs to the kitchen side seems sufficient to me for an ingredient reserve without major detours.

But this is not the text that fits a G-shaped kitchen as previously drawn. I also consider 350 cm too narrow for a real island kitchen. However, one could consider placing a tall cabinet wall with an integrated secondary row for storing KVA and similar items along the wall to the stairs at the bottom of the plan. Then, at a distance of about 100 cm, place an island 100 cm deep. This should be at least 300 to 330 cm wide. If a passage of about 80 cm is also planned to the right of the plan for a real island, about 380 to 410 cm of the 750 cm are already "used up"... one has to consider whether that is enough space for a table, etc. Whether the cabinets then provide enough storage for all intended items can only be determined by doing a storage planning for every planned kitchen layout. This also automatically checks the positioning of appliances, since you consider how to practically arrange your stuff.

1.) No. Plan a 60 cm tall cabinet for food for every 2 people. Think about where beverage crates and empties will be stored, where a second fridge or freezer will be placed.

2.) A cooking island also looks good at 2 meters length. It is important that there is storage and working space on the walls as well, where preparation can also take place. A square cooking island of, for example, 1.40 x 1.40 also looks good. The advantage is that you can place the whole family on every side for cookie making ;)

3.) I would have a "problem" going past the living room into the bottleneck, and then past the dining table to get to the kitchen. For me, the fridge or the island is the first destination with groceries ;) I would switch the room functions of living room and kitchen.

And 4.) The cloakroom to the WC is absolutely not optimal, if not even very bad: from experience, the cloakroom is rather a room where you quickly _leave_ your shoes... also quickly throw your scarf in the corner. Then there is no longer barrier-free access to the WC. I can imagine that two cabinets should go here? Also not ideal when doors have to be opened behind doors. You will stand in each other's way. I would solve that differently.
