Dismantle Ikea Maskros lamp

Hello everyone,

I want to sell my Maskros lamp now. My girlfriend doesn’t find it very pretty (I really don’t understand why not) and so it has to go before the move.

Now I have the problem that I don’t know how to take the thing apart. It’s just a bit of plastic. But that also breaks very quickly.

Has anyone had experience with the lamp?

Sure, I could also ship the lamp as it is, but the thing is quite big and not very stable.

It would be nice if someone could help me.

Take the manual (the pdf is available at Ikea) and then backwards?

Exactly, instructions backwards. To separate the "stars" from the rods, it will be useful to use a screwdriver with a very fine blade. As with all clipped plastic parts, there is always the risk of breaking the retaining tabs. I don't understand your girlfriend either. Well, women are like that.

The thing with the instructions backwards is kind of an issue. Removing the "stars" is no problem, but then to get off the "half moons with the embedded metal rods," you have to apply force. And I'm just afraid of that.

How would you package the lamp to ship it whole?

Preferably a (large!) sturdy box/carton and then several layers of bubble wrap around it. Then fill the corners with styrofoam chips or similar. Or list it for pickup on Ebay-Kleinanzeigen.

I dismantled the lamp Maskros relatively easily but of course time-consuming (160 paper flowers...) before our move. The flowers can be clipped off quite easily with your screwdriver (insert the thin screwdriver into both clips one after the other and turn a little). You just have to hold the arches directly at the arch (in the middle) and pull. Do not try to unclip anything with the screwdriver! It goes quite quickly!! Greetings from Vienna
