And electricity. How much salt you use also depends on your water demand. Some systems already offer LAN or WIFI connection + app. This way you always have it monitored. At the push of a button, you can close the valve and the pipes behind it are depressurized. With a leakage sensor, this happens automatically.

Check how much sodium is allowed in drinking water according to the Drinking Water Ordinance, and how much sodium is contained in some mineral waters. Then you quickly have the relation; tap water in Germany is (thank God) a valuable commodity. Rule of thumb: hardness buffers pH. Accordingly, changes in hardness also cause changes in pH. But in 99.5% of cases, the changes are by far not so extreme that dosing would be necessary.

If you set the system to an output water hardness of 3-5 dh, everything is fine! Both for the body and for the pipes

You should never soften to 0 dh!

Salt requirement depends on your input water. We soften from 23 dh to 4 dh and need just under 25 KG of salt per month. That means salt costs under €10.

I have never dealt with the electricity costs. They are definitely worth the added value!
