Hello garden design!

Thank you for your numerous pieces of information. Could you perhaps also address the herbs that are particularly suitable for a rock garden? Surely, you can’t just plant any herb as you please...

Regards,
sennor ;)

Hello Garden Design, you truly live up to your nickname. It’s clear that you know your stuff. Thanks for the great advice. I’ll use the weekend to just get started. If you also have a few expert tips on the herbs, that would be great. My rock garden will definitely be amazing. I’m really looking forward to it. Thanks again for the tips! They are really very helpful! Best regards, Janni1403 :)

Rock Garden Herbs

Hi!

I'm really glad to hear that I could help. It is also very important to me that people do not just "own" a garden, but that they take an interest in it, always learn something new, and understand that how a garden develops depends a lot on oneself. On the one hand, you should not interfere too much with the biological balance, on the other hand, you should not leave your garden completely to itself. Every garden needs to be cared for, and the gardener should design their garden so that they always enjoy it. In my eyes, you should feel there like in a place of calm, where you can unwind and focus on the important things in life. You always have to keep in mind that the garden should meet your own needs. For example, how much time do you want to invest?

About the rock garden:
The rock garden should, as already said, be located in a dry, sunny, and poor soil area. Accordingly, Mediterranean herbs are especially suitable to plant there. These include:

- Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
- Sage (Salvia officinalis)
- Oregano (Origanum vulgare)
- Winter savory (Satureja montana)

This is a small selection of herbs that are well suited for a rock garden. It is recommended to plant 12 pieces per m².

Best regards,
Garden design :)

Hello Garden Design,
it's already the weekend again and I'm only now getting around to writing to you once more. I used last weekend intensively to start with my rock garden. It already looks quite good. For this weekend, I have planned to tackle the [„Kräuterteil“]. Thyme & Co will complement my rock garden perfectly. Thanks again for the many good tips I got from you.
Best regards, Janni :)

Cactus Rock Garden

Hi Jannie,

no problem, I’m glad I could help. I already wish you good work finishing your "artwork"! ;)

Now I wanted to mention something for all rock garden fans: there is also the possibility to plant your rock garden with cacti that are frost-hardy. Yes, there really are cactus species that can thrive well in our climate! These include, for example, so-called prickly pear cacti.

The cold doesn’t harm these plants, but you really have to make sure that the soil is light and permeable. Near house walls with roof overhangs, the idea of a cactus rock garden can be best realized, as this prevents too much rain from falling on the rock garden.

Best regards,
Garden design ;)

Hi Garden Design,

that really sounds interesting and extraordinary. I have truly never heard of that before, and I would never have thought that there are cactus species that can survive outdoors in winter here.

Best regards,
sennor :)
