What do we learn from this? Especially in the case of a new building and the renovation/refurbishment of an existing property, photos with marking points (scale) of pipes are essential. That’s how we did it when installing the electric shutters and just recently during the work on the facade.

Apart from who is factually liable in what way now, I would have a strange feeling if there was a conversation where I, as the client, said "Passt so". The material has already been selected and ordered. I assume it already has installation points that are fixed. It would have been sensible to check the conditions already at the time of ordering.

Hi everyone,

[*]This is an official order and not a voluntary service.
[*]Cable was not visible as it was laid under insulation.
[*]Position was not fixed but varied in height.

I’m actually surprised that there is no clear experience here. Something like this surely happens x times a day...

Still, thanks for the statements so far.

I can only report from our neighbors. During the kitchen assembly, a cable in the wall was drilled into. The kitchen studio came, took down the cabinet, and the electricians broke up the plaster and repaired the cable. The kitchen studio paid for it because it was their mistake.
But they were also so stupid and drilled directly above a ceiling-level socket, so it’s not exactly your case.

Was there a "notification of concerns" by the fitter after he saw the pictures of the cable and before he drilled the holes?

There was, that's why the drilling was carried out slightly shifted. As the client, I have to inquire beforehand. In case of "emergency," request the final plans from the general contractor/tradesman. Only then can, in my opinion, an appropriate canopy be selected, always taking the fastening positions into account.

Are those enough or should I rather spend a bit more and get something better/more accurate? I probably want to get something like that.
