I just sent the photos to an acquaintance who knows a bit about this. He said it is a settlement crack and the mortar joints appear to be completely torn through, because it looks like a step pattern. I googled and saw similar photos in the image search. He said I should ask a structural engineer. However, I don’t know where to quickly find one now.

Since I probably won't have the opportunity to go in with an expert before buying anyway, and it's not even certain that I will get it at all, I still spoke with a painter/wallpaper hanger and showed him the photos. He considers it harmless. He said he has seen it quite often. To him, it looks like settlement. He said it can be reinforced with fleece, filled in, and then a fleece wallpaper can be applied over it. Then it’s fine. He doesn’t see any structural problems, nor due to moisture because it is a mid-terrace house. The cracks are present in both rooms (south and north) and on the side walls respectively. For your information, I took another photo.
